촘촘, 인연을 엮는 감각의 언어
‘느슨해질지언정 쉽게 끊어지지 않는 인연’이라는 관점에서 시작된 촘촘은, 이어령 선생님의 한국의 매듭을 ‘만남과 헤어짐을 맺고 풀어내는 끈의 관계’로 바라본 시선에서 출발한다. 그에게 실과 매듭은 단지 묶는 기술이 아니라, 한국의 인간관이었다. 촘촘은 이 관점을 한국식 환대의 태도와 연결해 풀어낸다. 실과 매듭의 이미지를 통해 관계를 엮는 장면을 재해석하고, 이를 하나의 정서적 경험으로 확장한다. 누군가를 떠올리며 매듭을 짓고 한 올씩 엮어 마음을 담아내던 옛 방식처럼, ‘엮는 행위’ 자체를 브랜드의 핵심 가치로 삼아 공간과 브랜드 아이덴티티, 패키지 전반에 일관된 결을 담아낸다. 그렇게 마음을 전하는 감각의 경험이 되어, 오늘의 일상 속에서 관계를 이어주는 하나의 언어가 된다.
촘촘은 이러한 언어를 ‘정표(情表)’라는 디자인 컨셉으로 구체화한다. 정표는 ‘당신을 위하는 마음’을 형태와 장면으로써 드러내는 장치로, 과거 복을 빌며 정성을 새기던 태도에서 출발한다. 상대를 위한 마음을 담아 준비하고 건네던 방식처럼, 이러한 태도를 오늘의 감각으로 풀어내어 정성과 마음이 온전히 전해지는 경험의 장면을 만든다.
과거의 문은 단순한 출입구를 넘어, 집의 경계이자 성격을 드러내는 상징적 요소였다. 촘촘은 이러한 전통적 의미를 브랜드의 서사로 재해석해, 들어서는 순간부터 자연스럽게 브랜드의 이야기를 마주하도록 한다. 입구의 문고리는 브랜드 로고를 형태적으로 확장한 오브제다. 로고가 지닌 ‘대길(大吉)’의 의미에서 출발해 하나의 길상 문양처럼 읽히도록 구성한 이 요소는, 이곳을 찾는 이들에게 좋은 인연과 복을 기원하는 따뜻한 환대의 인사를 건넨다. 금속 동판 사이니지와 함께 공간의 일부로 스며든 오브제는 전반적인 밀도와 완성도를 높인다.
입구를 지나 마주하는 첫 번째 공간은 제품에 담긴 정성을 정갈한 함(函) 속에 담아낸 듯한 공간이다. 정면의 리셉션은 모란, 연꽃, 금낭화, 소나무를 한땀 한땀 모시천에 자수하여 방문객을 맞이하는 환대의 태도를 시각화하였다. 천장과 벽에 스며드는 빛, 그리고 정돈된 장면은 함 안에 담긴 단정한 마음을 드러내며 방문객을 촘촘의 세계관으로 천천히 이끈다. 내러티브가 담긴 라이팅월은 호랑이, 거북이, 잉어, 학을 반영하여 재해석한 길상 문양 텍스타일을 적용해 공간의 정체성을 강화하고 익숙하면서도 새로운 감각을 전달한다.
이어지는 두 번째 공간은 또 다른 차원의 시퀀스를 형성한다. 시작과 끝을 가늠하기 어려울 만큼 계속해서 이어지는 이 공간은 마치 새로운 차원으로 들어선 듯한 인상을 준다. 반사 소재인 은경을 적용해 서로를 비추며 끝없이 이어지는 장면을 연출하고, 이를 통해 끊임없이 순환하고 연결되는 인연의 윤회적 가치를 무한히 확장되는 공간감으로 구현한다. 알루미늄 프로파일이 반복적으로 맞물리며 만드는 질서 있는 패턴은 한국 전통 문양을 연상시키는 정제된 리듬을 형성한다. 금속 프레임 위에 묶인 끈은 선반의 기능을 수행하는 동시에, 브랜드의 핵심인 ‘실과 매듭’의 이야기를 시각적으로 완성한다.
무한한 인상의 공간 속에서 주방과 이어지는 창은 제품이 만들어지는 과정을 은유적으로 드러내는 장치가 된다. 창을 통해 비치는 빛은 제작 과정의 움직임을 은은하게 노출하며 그 안에 담긴 손길을 자연스럽게 전한다. 이 장면은 촘촘이 말하는 ‘마음을 전하는 경험’을 공간 속에서 갈무리하며, 비로소 관계를 엮고 이어가는 브랜드의 이야기를 하나의 감각적인 잔상으로 남긴다.

ChomChom, a sensory language that weaves bonds.
Chomchom, which began with the concept of "a bond that may loosen but is not easily broken," begins with Lee Eo-ryeong's view of Korean knots as "a bond that binds and unties encounters and partings." For him, thread and knots were not simply tying techniques, but rather a reflection of the Korean concept of human connection. Chomchom connects this perspective to Korean hospitality. Through the image of thread and knots, it reinterprets the scene of bonding relationships and expands it into an emotional experience. Just as in ancient times, people tied knots, thread by thread, to express their feelings, Chomchom embraces the act of "weaving" itself as a core value of the brand, embodying a consistent thread throughout the space, brand identity, and packaging. This becomes a sensory experience that conveys feelings, becoming a language that connects relationships in everyday life.
Chomchom embodies this language through the design concept of "jeongpyo (情表)." Jeongpyo is a device that expresses "a heart for you" through form and scenery, drawing inspiration from the past practice of expressing sincerity and wishing good luck. Just as people used to prepare and present with sincerity for others, this attitude is translated into a contemporary sensibility, creating an experience where sincerity and heart are fully conveyed.
In the past, doors were more than mere entrances; they were symbolic elements that defined the boundaries of a home and revealed its character. Chom Chom reinterprets this traditional meaning as a brand narrative, naturally engaging visitors with the brand's story from the moment they step inside. The doorknob at the entrance is an object that formally extends the brand logo. Originating from the logo's meaning of "great good fortune," this element, designed to be read as an auspicious pattern, offers visitors a warm welcome, wishing them good relationships and good fortune. The object, integrated into the space along with the metal copper signage, enhances the overall density and completeness.
The first space upon entering feels like a neatly crafted box containing the sincerity put into the products. The reception area at the front visualizes the hospitality of welcoming visitors, with peonies, lotuses, bleeding-heart flowers, and pine trees meticulously embroidered onto ramie cloth. Light permeating the ceiling and walls, along with the neatly organized scenes, reveal the refined spirit within, slowly guiding visitors into the world of Chomchom. The narrative lighting wall, reinterpreted with auspicious textiles reflecting tigers, turtles, carp, and cranes, reinforces the spatial identity and conveys a familiar yet novel sensation.
The second space then creates a sequence of yet another dimension. This space, with its indistinguishable beginning and end, creates the impression of entering a new dimension. The reflective material, silver mirror, illuminates each other, creating an endlessly flowing scene. This infinitely expanding spatiality embodies the cyclical value of relationships, constantly circulating and connecting. The orderly pattern created by the repeated interlocking of aluminum profiles creates a refined rhythm reminiscent of traditional Korean patterns. The strings tied to the metal frame serve as shelves, visually completing the brand's core narrative of "thread and knot."
In this space of infinite impressions, the window connecting to the kitchen becomes a metaphorical device for the product's production process. The light streaming through the window subtly reveals the movements of the production process and naturally conveys the handiwork involved. This scene captures Chomchom's "experience of conveying the heart" within the space, leaving behind a sensuous afterimage of the brand's story of weaving and sustaining relationships.
